BioThere are two types of smiles. One is called the "Pan American smile," because it is associated with flight attendants of the former airline. Pan American smiles are forced, voluntary, and polite. The other type of smile is the Duchenne smile (named after researcher Guillaume Duchenne), and is an involuntary response to genuine emotion. Unlike with a Pan American smile, the eyes crinkle up with a Duchenne smile.
